Florian C. Placzek, Jr.
Passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the age of 70 in Severance, CO. He was born on August 18, 1940, in Tarnov, NE to Florian and Balbina (Zoucha) Placzek. An altar boy and devout Catholic, Florian attended St. Bonaventure High School in Columbus, NE. Florian married Catherine Mae Huhman on October 7, 1959. He and Cathy had four children: Denise (Mike) Hokanson, Sandra (Steve Bradford) Placzek, Florian "Tony" (Karla) Placzek, and Marni (Mark) Halford. Florian took great delight in his family, both immediate and extended; nothing made him happier than spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed baking bread, working with his hands, and traveling; his travels with Cathy took him to Italy, Medjugorje, and Germany, as well as many places throughout the United States. Blessed with an infectious laugh and a love of storytelling and mischief, Florian had the ability to charm all he met. Florian is survived by his wife Cathy; his children; his grandchildren Robert (engaged to Kenzie Hunter), Emily, Florian Zachary, Devyn, Samantha, and Cole; and siblings Minnie White, Ambrose Placzek, and James Placzek. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Balbina Placzek; his siblings Bernard, Joseph, Theresa, Leo, Viola, Thaddeus, Mary Ann, Virginia, and Sally Jane; and his beloved grandson Kyle Placzek Sullivan.
A VIGIL and ROSARY will be held on Thursday, May 5, and a MASS of the Resurrection on Friday, May 6, both at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Holy Ghost Restoration Fund at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 5219 S. 53rd St, Omaha, NE 68117. The family would also appreciate masses in Florian's name.
