Uncle Laurence, although an avid farmer and and had a large amount of all types of large and small farm animals, he loved to go fishing. There was a creek that ran just right by his farm maybe 30 to 40 feet away, and he loved to go fishing in this creek, known as Elm Creek, and catching many, many various types of fish, especially, huge catfish, whom, I remember, when I was much younger, were the best fish I had ever eaten, better than any in any store!
Also, Uncle Laurence, and Uncle Warren (Uncle Warren who had a large farm, which originally owned the farm next to the Guile family home; Uncle Warren's farm used to belong to Grandmother and Grandfather Miller's residence.
Anyway, they both had ponds in their pastures for the cattle and or whatever livestock were staying there. Both kept these ponds stocked with catfish, and blue gills and some others. We would many times spend many happy days and evenings fishing for catfish, sometimes by mistake getting a turtle which usually got away. One of the most exciting things we did was sit and bait well night lines to entice these hungry fish, who happen to be more active at night and safer because less noise above the water.

Very early photo of the Ottawa County Courthouse, this is the 2nd courthouse of 3. The first was a wooden structure on 2nd St near the Commercial Hotel and it was torn down after the 2nd one was built, the 2nd was this brick structure on Concord and 3rd and the last one is the current modern building that is on the same site as the one in this picture.
