Her parents were James Henry and Kate Valentine Lynn Dillinder. She married Granville Glenn Southern and they moved to Seadrift, Texas. They had two children: Thomas "Tom" Neal Southern and Glenda Southern. Glenn died in 1964 and Tom was killed in a car wreck in 1967 when he just returned from Vietnam.
