George Harry Eckel
George grew up in Feasterville, PA. His childhood was full of building forts, playing in the woods, sledding, building things, such as go-carts and model rockets. He always had a fascination with electronics. He excelled at sports- football and baseball in particular. He last played football when he was 56. In baseball, he played little league, intermediates, and American Legion. He also played men's softball with his friends in PA. He had great friends as a kid. Ron Wellings, Bruce Ludlow, Andy Negro, and George called themselves The Block because they hung out together all the time. They entertained themselves by playing sports, doing Saturday Night Live impromptu types of sketches, and going to bars on Friday or Saturday nights. George went to Bucknell University and graduated with a BA in physics and English. He worked a year in his college town and then went to grad school, PhD in English at UC Berkeley in 1976. More to come.
