He married Gloria Jean Stevenson in Cabell, West Virginia in 1960, in 1968 he married Rosalee Shaffer, and he married Barbara Lynn Carter in Brevard, Florida on September 7, 1985. He was father to two children (from different marriages), Robert Franklin Smith and Janelle L. (Smith) Landa.
On April 5, 1997 while out on the river in Stubbenville, Jefferson County, Ohio Larry Franklin Smith passed away.
