Tim Conway
A photo of entertainer Tim Conway.
Born in Ohio in 1933, Tim Conway's father was Irish and his mother was Romanian. He began his entertainment career in radio and was "discovered" by actress and comedian Rose Marie (from the Dick Van Dyke Show) in 1961. This lead to his first tv appearances on The Steve Allen Show.
He went on to be a part of the cast in television's McHale's Navy and later had his own comedy show as well as starring in many Disney films with Don Knotts.
He is probably most well known as a part of the ensemble on The Carol Burnett Show but many movies and tv appearances followed.
Married twice, Tim had six children with his first wife.

Unknown Swedish Sisters
Photo of an unknown pair of sisters. It looks as though this photo was taken by Franksson photography studio in Ockelbo. Ockelbo is a locality and the seat of Ockelbo Municipality, Gävleborg County, Sweden and Franksson seems to be the photographer.
Photo found in an antique store in Bremerton Washington - many early settlers in Washington were of Swedish or Norwegian extraction. They may have been immigrants?
Who are these girls?

F.C. Rath
I've "rescued" an old photograph of F. C. RATH in front of his grocery store. The photograph was likely taken in the early 1900's. He is pictured along with two of his employees. I believe that this is Gottfried “Fred” C. RATH. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Fred and his family:
Gottfried “Fred” Christian RATH was b. 18 Jan 1871 in Dubuque, IA to Godfrey or Gottfried “Fred” RATH (1846-1888) and Johanna LAPE or LOEB (1850-1920). He was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Ann F. RATH WEICHOLD (1869-1952); Fred Christian; Frederick; Franklin “Frank” RATH (1873-1945); George RATH (1875-1950); Thomas; Envina; and Emma Elizabeth RATH (1879 or 1881-1923). Fred married Margaret or Margarette Ellen KEIDERLING (b. 1877 in Sommerville, NJ-1938) and together they had 3 children including, Harold Gottfried RATH (1895-1896); Gordon Brandon RATH (1897-1983) and Andrew Plattner RATH (1900-1991) all born in Iowa City, IA or Waterloo, IA.
Fred died in June 1948 and is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo, IA.
Census records provide the following details:
1880 census of Dubuque, IA:

Hannah RATH, wife, age 29, Keeping House, born Prussia, parents born Prussia

I am hoping to locate someone from this RATH Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.

Dorothea Lynde Dix
A photo of Dorothea Lynde Dix. Daughter of Joseph Dix and Mary Bigelow, she was born on April 4, 1802 in Hampden, Maine. In 1821, Dorothea opened a school in Boston for wealthy families but she also taught poor children in their homes. She had recurring heath issues that eventually led to her touring Europe for "rest and relaxation." While in Europe, she became interested in working on equal rights for the mentally ill and when she returned to the U.S., she brought her interests with her. In Massachusetts and New Jersey, she worked tirelessly for reforms in the treatment of the mentally ill and was instrumental in creating a state facility in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Her lobbying and efforts led to hospitals being established for the mentally ill in the U.S. and Canada and also led to international reforms.
During the Civil War, she was appointed Superintendent of Army Nurses by the Union Army, setting guidelines for army nurses (volunteers were to be aged 35 to 50 and plain-looking - making them unattractive to the soldiers!). She is best remembered for her insistence on equal care for both Union and Confederate soldiers.
After the Civil War, she returned to crusading for improving the care of prisoners, the disabled, and the mentally ill. While she was an invalid (due to contracting malaria) towards the end of her life, Dorothea never gave up fighting for the rights of these often marginalized groups.
