Kenneth's Comments

Kenneth Welsh Kenneth L. Welsh, Sr. said that he was actually in the Jamaica Infantry Volunteers (JIV), which was started at the beginning of the War, The Kingston Infantry Volunteers (KIV) only consisted of Kingstonians, and it was disbanded in 1939 and replaced by the JIV, which could have men from all over Jamaica, West Indies. He was a member of the Home Guard from September 1944 until December 1944, when he asked for a transfer to the JIV. The Home Guard was disbanded in 1946. My dad has the names and serial numbers of several KIV and JIV soldiers he remembers. I remembered all the old army and war stories my father told me. He joined the Jamaica Infantry Volunteers (JIV), a militia unit, September 1944, and later, the Jamaica Regiment, First Battalion. Most of the older men that visited my parents' home (before my dad's passing in 2007) are old soldiers, who "never die, they just fade away."
