She was short, barely 5 feet tall, and when I knew her, she had long silver hair she would let me, a young granddaughter, brush and arrange. She had china blue eyes and called her son Thomas, her baby boy. She had a short handled hoe for the garden and did pretty much what she wanted. One time, she came running to the school bus and used her hoe to kill a snake that was crawling up the post.
