Fred Ray Smith
My dad, Fred Ray Smith, passed away on 11/06/06. He was the son of William Estes and Sarah Elizabeth Dyer Smith of McDowell County NC. He married my mother, Glatha O. Curd on Halloween in 1936. He served in the US Navy and was a minister of the Church of Christ. He was buried in the cemetery of one of the first churches that he started in the Dysartsville Community of McDowell County NC.

Daniel Ruff
It is believed that Daniel was the son of George Ruff. He was also thought to have been a very religious man and preached at his church on many occasions. During the Civil War he hid meal and other foods to keep them from starving. He was thought to have been from Holland and made wooden shoes for his children. The Ruff ancestors first settled in Newberry County SC in a section called South-Gotha.
