I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.

My mom's side of the family is Swedish (and still lives in Sweden) and she instilled in me lots of Swedish heritage and traditions which has made me who I am today. My dad's side of the family is German and Irish and the most likely the side of the family I get all my freckles from. Family is so important, and welcome everyone to discover more about them, their history, and share about their loved ones who make up the history of who we are!

Fred was my father. My mother, Emily Eyraud Schweitzer, was 20+ years his junior. My dad had an Oldsmobile/ Cad agency for years in Bakersfield. His agency before was in Riverside. He was 57 when I was born and 55 when my brother, Stephen, was born.
He and my mother were fortunate to travel the world. South America was one trip and a world cruise in 1950, lasting four months was their final big journey. Life was good until Dad lost his life in a car accident in Lucerne Valley, Ca.

Fred Schweitzer of 2931 San Emidio St, in Bakersfield, Kern County, California United States was born on March 6, 1892 at Canton, Ohio in Stark County, and died at age 65 years old in July 1957.

Augustine was my grandmother. She immigrated from Chorges, France, to Marin County, CA. She was barely 18. She married my grandfather, 25 years her senior, in San Francisco three years later. Joseph Eyraud was born in Ancelle, France, and came to Plumas County to join his brothers in gold mining. The gold had dried up, so he became a successful sheep rancher in Bakersfield, CA.
My grandfather took his young wife to his ranch south of Bakersfield on Chevalier Road. Here they had three children: Emily(my mother), Frank, and Marguerite.
They were hard-working and humble people. My grandfather died in 1948 He never became an American citizen, nor did he speak English. My grandmother learned English and became a citizen of the US around 1932. She returned to France 5O years after she had left. She was able to visit her one brother and two sisters one final time.
I adored my grandmother, Augustine Genevieve Bertrand Eyraud. She was the most selfless person on earth. She loved each one of her grandchildren to the fullest, and we all thought that we were her favorite.
Rest easy, ma petite grandmere. Until we meet again,
