This is a picture of my mom with my brother David and my sister Dezi (Deseray) Somtime in the early 70's when she was married to their dad - who was also named David.

This was a Marshal Oil Painting Senior picture of my mom with abalone trim around the frame. Her original picture/painting from High School. It really shows the color of her eyes, the ones we share, "Color of the Kenai" she'd always say.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.

Mary was my mother, taken way too soon. Gone before I knew, what a mom was even for.
She was always busy, but not in a brush you off kind of way, more like she didn't like to just sit around, unless it was with family in front of the television, hand in hand with my dad, kicked back watching a movie or Star Search or listening to some good ol' Hank Williams Jr.
She worked as Telephone Operator #13 at ATU, the sole breadmaker, while my dad stayed at home and watched me and my brother. When she wasn't working, she loved to be outside in the sun, with the leaves and petals in the garden. Every chance we got as a family we would drive down the long Alaskan highway out to Homer or Ninilchek or Soldotna to go fishing and camping. She liked to write and she loved music. She always loved a good or a dirty joke and she laughed sometimes until tears came out. She was always happy to see you, whoever you were, and she would rarely if ever turn someone in need away.
I love and miss you mom... I'm sorry I was such a brat. I feel as though you died not feeling loved, but you were oh so loved.
