Robert Lee Kabrich
I never met "Grampa Shorty",Robert Lee Kabrich. Due to a drinking problem he was divorced from my Grandmother who later died in childbirth delivering a baby that was conceived with her new man. I hear that Lee sobered up later in life and I like to think he died sober. He was from St. Augustine Florida and fathered my Uncle Harry Lee Kabrich who I also never met. I understand that my uncle Harry died in WI on Sept 11, 2013 and that he left 8 cousins I have also never met. If anyone can put me in touch with this branch of my family tree I would be so grateful.

Harrison Arkansas Confederate Veteran's Reunion
(Picture found in scrapbook in Memphis, Tennessee 2007)
Harrison (Ark.) Daily Times - Thursday, April 12, 1973
Confederate Veterans Reunion
The Confederate Veterans Reunion was held in Harrison in 1914. The files of the Times of September 18, 1914 had this account:
On the morning of the second day of the exConfederate Reunion last Saturday, a parade was made, ending with an automobile ride about the city.
After this a photograph was made of the Camp in a body, standing on and around the north steps of the court house.
In the afternoon addresses were made by Judge E.G. Mitchell, Troy Pace, Mrs. Minnie Helm and others. Mrs. Harvey Lewis read an original poem — a tribute to those who wore the Gray, and the Daughters of the Confederacy, led by Mrs. J. E. Andrews and Misses Nona and lnez Williford, sang “Maryland, My Maryland.”
Most of the people are identified but several are not. If you can identify them, call Dr. Troy Coffman of Harrison, who furnished the photo.

Minnie married Joseph Edward Kabrich on September 30, 1903 in Bristol, VA. The couple had 7 children, three of whom died as infants. Their two sons served their country in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and they are interred with honor at Arlington National Cemetery. I have no personal memories of my grandmother; she died before I was born, as did my grandfather. I just know that she was a strong woman who loved her children.

Joseph Edward Kabrich was born on June 2, 1866 in Blacksburg, Montgomery County, Virginia United States, and died at age 71 years old on July 25, 1937 in Christiansburg. Joseph Kabrich was buried circa July 27, 1937 at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Joseph Edward Kabrich.

Charles Kabrich of Rocky Mount, Franklin County, Virginia was born on August 6, 1908, and died at age 71 years old in March 1980.

Youngest child of Joseph Edward Kabrich and Minnie Rose Harris Kabrich, Bob grew up in rural Christiansburg, VA. He played football for Christiansburg High School and lettered in the sport.
Bob was drafted right out of high school in 1943 and spent nearly a year training for one of the biggest events of WWII - the Normandy Invasion. Bob served his country with honor, earning both a purple heart and a bronze star.
He attended college at Va Tech, near his hometown, but his studies were interrupted when Uncle Sam called on him again to serve during the Korean Conflict. After completing this tour of duty, Bob went back to college using his GI Bill benefits.
He also met his wife, got married, and together they had two children. Bob studied rural sociology at Va Tech and worked as a probation officer for Fairfax County, VA until his death in 1994. He always enjoyed VA Tech football, Redskins football, his children, his grandchildren, and square dancing. He was loved and respected by nearly everyone who knew him.

Katherine S Kabrich of Williamsburg, James City County, VA was born on November 28, 1905, and died at age 95 years old on June 10, 2001.
