Schayna Wilson

Dianne Hinch Hernandez, 87, of Green Bay, loving and faithful servant of the Lord, was called to rest on Thursday, August 20, 2020 surrounded by her family. Dianne was born at home on the kitchen table on May 13, 1933 to Herbert and Adeline Giertz in the township of Stickney, IL. She deeply regretted being an only child and was determined to make up for it. She married Ronald J. Hinch, born one day before her, and just a few blocks away. Had Dianne’s mother made it to the hospital for her birth, she might have shared the very nursery as her future husband with whom she would build her first legacy - her family of seven children, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Dianne grew up in Oaklawn, IL and graduated from Argo Community High School in 1951. She was very active in sports, clubs and class leadership. She attended Illinois State Normal University from 1951-1953. In 1955, Dianne and her family moved north to Lakewood, WI where they owned and operated Wheeler Lake Resort. Her parents, whom she adored immeasurably and missed greatly, joined them in the northwoods years later opening Herb and Adeline’s tavern on Waubee Lake. Dianne had an inherent interest in health and well-being and after returning to the Green Bay area, went back to school at 48 years old. Cheered on by family and much-younger classmates, she graduated at the top of her class from NWTC in 1981 as a Respiratory Therapy Technician. Dianne worked for Bellin Memorial Hospital for 13 years before joining the staff at Angel’s on Arcadian and Angel’s Touch assisted living facilities. Dianne didn’t believe in retirement. She was a hard-worker whose secret to long life was to keep moving and to be purposeful. She served her prison ministry and helped her eldest daughter with office work until the time of her death. On August 25, 1979, Dianne was baptized at the Green Bay Seventh Day Adventist Church. It is in this home that she grew in her love of the Lord and for sharing that love with others. Teaming up with another life-long church member, she dedicated herself to creating and building a second legacy - a prison ministry purposed for sharing the Gospel through Bible study and giving hope to the incarcerated. The ministry has continued to grow for over 30 years speaking God’s love and promises to hundreds of inmates, potentially affecting the lives of thousands. She also served as a Deaconess and Elder, teacher for Jr. Sabbath School and Pathfinders, mentor for new members, and served meals to the homeless through the Mission Meal Share Him program. With a servant’s heart, Dianne was quick to offer a ride to church, give comfort to a hurting friend or visit an ailing church member. Dianne loved her church family immensely and they loved her back for her kindness, selflessness and willing heart. Her pastor described her to our family as a “saint-alive.” Dianne knew she was greatly blessed to have the large family she had always desired. She was a loving and supportive matriarch. She loved each of her children uniquely and completely. She was our role-model for a life well-lived. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought incredible joy to her life and she knew how fortunate she was to know each of them. Dianne will be remembered for the birthday cards she sent with sticks of gum and signed “Your Ever Loving” Mom or Grandmother. She loved eating popcorn with Hershey bars, radishes, caramel cashew sundaes, church potlucks and a good fish fry. She kept a stash of traditional dime-store candies like lemon drops and butterscotch. She loved being touched, whether it was the heat of the sun or a good back scratch or foot rub. She loved peonies and lilacs, old TMC movies, the Hallmark Channel and GSN, solitaire and Rummikub, 3ABN Radio, and spending daily time in the Word. She had a hearty and infectious laugh that will live in our hearts and minds forever. She was our fierce advocate and an example of strength, courage and determination in the hardest of times. She was, and will always be, our hero. We love you deeply Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Granny, G-Meister and Babushka. Dianne is survived by her children: Ronald Hinch (Sarah), Kathy Tesch, Candy Van Rite (Jim), Tammy Carson (Dan), Herbert Hinch (Lynn), Mark Hinch (Stephanie), Laura Hansen (Scott); grandchildren: Justin Hinch (Holly), Nicholas Hinch (Jenner), Zachary Hinch (Kayla), Brenton Hinch, Lauron Clark (Will), A.J. Yelk, Holly Yelk, Mark Tesch (Elizabet), Christina Oettinger (Jason), Kaylee Kulhanek (Will), Galina Carson, Erin Hinch (Rich), Katlyn Strupp (Tyler), Erik Hinch, Megan Hinch, Schayna Wilson (Sean), Hailee Peterson (Mark), Kurt Schierland and Reanna Hansen (Alex); and great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Audrey, Gracyn, Evelyn, Emma Jean, Wyatt, Ellison, Magdalyn, Ella, Lia, Sophia, Emma Alan, Trey, Elena, Preston, Adeline, Ruby, Ryker, and Eli; and one very sad dog, Tito. Dianne was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald J. Hinch and her parents, Herbert and Adeline Giertz, all of Lakewood, WI; and her best friend and first-cousin, Richard Giertz of IL.
