Family of Hans Jakob Larsen-Nygaard-Bratvold
This is a family portrait of the Hans Jakob Larsen-Nygaard-Bratvold family. In Norway you take the name of the form on which you live, so they actually had different surnames over the years. The parents are Johanna (Olsen) Nygaard & Hans Jakob Larsen-Nygaard-Bratvold. Their children in front are Ole Kristian Nygaard, Johne Kristine Nygaard, Bertha Marie Hansen-Nygaard and Lars Oskar Nygaard. Bertha Marie was my maternal grandmother.

BERTHA MARIE HANSEN-NYGAARD
Confirmation picture of my grandmother taken at around age 14 (circa 1906) in Nannestad, Norway. She had two brothers come to America, and one sent her a boat ticket back to join them in America, which she did, alone, at the age of 16. On the 23rd of May 1908, she set sail from Oslo, Norway, heading to Minnesota.

JOHN FRAZEE - my g-g-grandfather
John Frazee was born 5 Feb 1841, in Frankfort, Owen Twp, Clinton Co, Indiana, to James Lytle & Susannah (Harris) Frazee. On 28 Apr 1868, he married Cyrena Sarah Beckwith in Chickasaw County, Iowa. The couple had 6 children - two to die young of diphtheria. He was a student of the Fayette University, and he taught school later in life and held many places of honor and trust. The county elected him Representative to the 25th and 26th General Assembly and he served with dignity and honor. John died 7 Nov 1917, at the old Frazee homestead, in which his son, John D, was living, from a stroke of paralysis. Was buried 10 Nov 1917 in Beckwith Cemetery.

Cyrena was the daughter of Joseph & Lucinda Almira (Wood) Beckwith, born 8 June 1844, in Whitehall, Washington Co, New York. Died 9 Nov 1909, in Bassett, Chickasaw Co, Iowa. Married John Frazee 28 April 1868 in Chickasaw County, Iowa. Had 6 children - the youngest two died of diphtheria in Nov 1877.

Joseph Beckwith was the son of Dyer & Susannah (Bartholomew) Beckwith. Born 1 Jun 1821 in Whitehall, Washington Co, NY - Died 17 June 1898 in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa. Was my g-g-g-grandfather.
