Lloyd Russell Sankowich was born to Samuel Sankowich (1905 - 1972) and Sally "Sarah" Blumenfeld (1906 - 1975). His father was born in Poland and his mother was born in San Francisco, California, three months after the Great Quake of 1906. He was survived by a brother, Lee, and two sisters, Lila and Hedy.
Lloyd Sankowich married Antoinet M Savoini in 1953 and they had a daughter and two sons. Antoinet and Lloyd divorced in San Francisco in February of 1973.
He was later stabbed by a former boyfriend of his current girlfriend. The killer, Lloyd Simi, who was 39 years old when the stabbing occurred, was committed to Napa State Mental Hospital due to an "insanity" plea. The maximum sentence he could receive was seven years.
