Neil Oliver Crow
I have an old studio photograph identified as Niel Oliver CROW which was taken at the Wasson Studio in Decatur, IL and provided as a gift to "Aunt Amelia". I believe that this is a photograph of Neil Oliver CROW who was less than one year old at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the photograph and this family:
Neil Oliver CROW was b. 22 Sept 1917 in Blue Mound, IL to parents Ezra Wellington CROW (1886-1954) and Maude or Maud Ida GABRIEL (1886-1970) who were married 15 Oct 1907 in Illinois. Neil was one of 6 children born to this couple including Murl or Merle E.; Baby Girl; Doris or Dorris Ida; Baby Girl; and Neil Oliver CROW, all born between 1909 and 1917. Neil married Lois May HAMILTON (1920-1995) on 8 Feb 1941 in Benton, MO and they had two children, a girl and a boy. Neil died 30 Sept 2007 in Mt. Zion, IL and is buried in the Hall Cemetery in Blue Mound, IL.
I am hoping to get this wonderful old treasure back to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.

The following letter was written by "G. D. Crow", father of Richard and A.B. Crow after the death of his two sons in Knobel, Arkansas.
Declares His Boys Were Murdered.
Lafe, Ark., July 12, 1915
To the Editor:
I read an article in last week's Soliphone about the death of the Crow brothers that is misleading and partly untrue. I am the father of the Crow boys and am prompted to write this and ask you to publish it.
The oldest son, A.B. Crow, would have been thirty years of age next September. The younger son, Richard, was seventeen years old on November 9, 1914. The elder brother lived at Sellmeyer and had three children. Richard lived here with his parents near Lafe. Richard had gone to spend July 4 with his brother, and they went to Knobel to get some groceries and a jug of whisky. The whisky belonged to four people. I don't believe they would have opened the jug until the other parties were present. The jug was broken in a sack with some bread. They were either not drinking or were not asleep. The time was too short for them to have reached the sleeping stage of drunkenness. One report indicates there was an eye witness to the tragdey (sp)and that the engineer on the train did see them and stopped, or almost stopped, the train within a few feet of them, and while they were making efforts to get off the track he pulled the throttle open and struck them instantly. They had no chance to escape, if this is true, and I believe it is. The engineer could not help knowing he had killed them, and did not have humanity enough to stop. It is my opinion it was a willful, cold-blooded murder, and that the engineer should suffer for it to the extent of the law. Railroad men should be made to respect human life, as well as other people. I have the above report of an eye witness from a reliable source and I think it is true.

Crow Brothers Meet Horrible Death Near Knoble Late Last Saturday Night.
Two men named Crow, one thirty years of age and the other eighteen, were literally cut to pieces by the northbound Iron Mountain passenger train two miles south of Knobel about eleven forty-five Saturday night. The men, who were brothers, were asleep on the track. It is said the engineer on the passenger train did not see them and knew nothing of having killed the men until his train reached Knobel. The faithful dog, belonging to the elder Crow, was also killed, and a jug of whisky from which the brothers had evidently taken too frequent libations, was smashed by the train.
Cal Broadway of Jonesboro, claim agent for the Iron Mountain, spent yesterday in the vicinity of the tragedy gathering the facts. It is understood the men resided at Sellmeyer where the elder Crow worked a small farm. The younger brother resided with him. They spent much of their time hunting for the market. It is said the brothers went to Knobel Saturday night and got a jug of whisky they had ordered from Poplar Blugg. The supposition is they drank freely from the jug on their return home, and that they became drowsy from the effects of the intoxicants and lay down on the track to sleep. The dog and the jug were evidently close to the men when the train passed over them.
The elder Crow was married and leaves a wife and six children.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Velma and Ora CROW which was taken at the Joslin Studio in Palouse, WA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with the two children ranging in age from about 2-6 years old. The girls are also identified as the "Charlie's Children". Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family:
Velma Gladys CROW was b.1 Dec 1902 in Viola, ID to parents Charles Summer or Sumner CROW (1879-1976) and Ada Louise or Lois HILL (1881-1983). Velma was one of 10 children born to this couple including, Velma Gladys; Ora Blanche; Virgie; Charles Ellis; Elzie or Elsie; Leta Josephine; Melvin Franice or Francis Melvin; and three others, all born between 1902 and 1919. Velma married twice, one of her husbands was Julius GARTZ (1897-1964) and she had 4 children of her own and died on 9 May 1987 in Spokane, WA.
Velma’s sister Ora Blanche CROW was b. 10 Apr 1905 in Viola, ID

The stout woman in this photo is Dovil Rebecca Crow 1889-1940.
She was the daughter of John Henry Crow and his wife Martha Jane Shell Crow. Dovil Crow was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she lived until the early 1900's when her father died and her mother and she moved to Lincoln, Talladega County, Alabama. Her mother later remarried to Henry Glidewell. Dovil Crow was married to Henry Marshall Moon in about 1910 and they lived together for a while before he left her and seems to have wound up in Texas later. Henry & Martha Glidewell and Dovil Crow (Moon) later moved to the cotton mill village at Pell City where they remained the rest of their lives. They are all buried at Blue Eye Cemetery at Lincoln, Talladega County, Alabama.

Killed by Train. Fragments of flesh and bones representing less than half of the bodies of A.B. (Brant) Crow, aged 32, and his young brother Richard Crow, 17, who resided at Sellmeyer spur, on the Helena branch railroad, 4 miles south of Knobel, were found scattered for a great distance along the railroad track from a point about 2 miles south of Knobel where northbound passenger train No. 10 struck the unfortunates just before midnight last Saturday.
Small parts of their bodies were found on the locomotive after that train arrived at Poplar Bluff Sunday morning. All that could be gathered of their remains, collected by friends and citizens, and placed in a small box, was brought to Knobel Sunday morning where Esq. C. B. Cox, acting coroner, empanelled a jury and held an inquest, whose verdict accorded with these statements. The Crow brothers were last seen alive as they left Knobel for their home Saturday evening about 7 o' clock with a jug of whiskey. The elder Crow leaves a widow and three children. The young men were sons of Parson Crow, a Baptist minister.

Southern Corn Pudding
Ingredients:
3T Butter
3T flour
1-16 oz corn
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup milk
dash of salt
Directions:
Melt butter,mix in flour and corn in a baking dish,Beat eggs lightley with sugar,Add milk &salt. Pour into baking dish.
stir once at the end of 15 minutes.add a dash of nutmeg and cook for 15 more minutes.
Bake at 450 degrees

Brown sausage,melt cheese,than put in sausage and add bisquick,work it up -make into balls and bake at 350 about 10-12 minutes

Ingredients:
3T Old Bay Seasoning
3T Salt
1 1/2 Gallons water
2 lbs Keilbasa or smoked sausage
12 ears shucked corn broken into 3-4 inch pieces
4 lbs shrimp in shells
Directions:
In a large stock pot,add the seasoning to the water and bring to a boil.Add sausage and boil,uncovered,5 minutes.Add corn and cook 5 minutes (begin counting immediately,dont wait until the water is boiling). Add shrimp and count 3 minutes. Drain immediately.

Crab Cakes
CRAB CAKES

Mayonaise
Mustard
Parsley Flakes

1/4 cup water
1 container (16 ounces) cream cheese frosting
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat two 8-inch round cake pans with nonstick cooking spray and lightly flour.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, allspice, and cinnamon; mix well. Add the soup, oil, eggs, and water and beat until well combined.
3. Pour into the cake pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pans, then remove to a platter and frost with the cream cheese frosting.

LASAGNA
Ingredients:
(SAUCE MIXTURE)
1 lb. ground beef
1 clove garlic or 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tbls sweet basil
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 lb can tomatoes ( 2 cups)
2-6 oz. cans tomato paste
(CHEESE MIXTURE)
3 cups cottage cheese ( 24 oz.)
1/2 cup parmasan cheese
2 tbls. parsley flakes
2 eggs beaten
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp pepper
(OTHER)
1 lb mozzeralla cheese (sliced)
8 Lasagna noodles
Directions:
Brown meat, add next 5 Sauce mixture ingrediants, simmer 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Cook 8 lasagna noodles in salt water for 15 minutes, add a little cooking oil while boiling.
Drain well.
Mix Cheese Mixture ingrediants in bowl.

Butter Pecan Coffee Cake
Easy and Fast Recipe that everyone loves!!!!!!
Ingredients:
1 can Betty Crocker Coconut Pecan Frosting
1 Box Betty Crocker Butter Pecan Cake Mix
2/3 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs,slightly beaten
1 cup of milk
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl,mix eggs, oil, and milk together...then add box cake mix and blend until moistened. Add can of frosting and mix well. You can mix by hand or mixer on low/med speed.
Pour into a lightly oiled bundt pan and bake in preheated oven @ 350 Degrees for 50-55minutes until firm and springs back upon touching. Cool
completely. Invert on serving plate. If desired, you can mix up a glaze of 1 cup powered sugar, 2tbls milk,2tbls melted butter,and dash vanilla. and pour over top of cake.
Cake is really moist. Enjoy.

My great aunt told me that he healed many men in his unit who were very ill and would've possibly died had it not been for him.
