Joseph Balachowski:
Trying to solve a mystery. - Karol Bienko and my father, Joseph Balachowski were fellow partisans in the Polish Home Army during WWII, in the eastern part of Poland that now belongs to Ukraine.
During the war they operated out of a farm where my father met my future mother. At the end of WWII my parents ended up in a displaced persons camp in Salzburg, Austria. According to them, Karol disappeared.
In 1948 my parents emigrated to the United States. After my father retired from teaching at a California college, my parents retired to Hemet, CA. This is less than 100 miles from Desert Hot Springs, CA, where Karol Bienko spent his last days. My father passed away in 1989.
I am not sure this was a coincidence. It's possible Mr. Bienko somehow found my father. But did they ever communicate?
Does anyone out there know this story? I would love to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Joseph D. Balachowski
Seattle, WA

Allan Anderson:
Nephew - I Never Did Thank You Uncle Herb For Giving Me The Help You Gave Me At A Very Trying Time In My Life. You And Your Mother, My Granny Helped Me When I Needed It Most. I Am Sorry If I Let You Down. You Were A Good And Caring Man. So I Thank You Uncle Herb. Love, Your Nephew Allan
Rita Campbell:
Adelina was my mother - Her preferred name, and stage name while she worked much of her life as a dancer, was Lili. She didn’t like her given name and liked her middle name even less. She was very quiet, modest, and elegant.
She loved to read, garden, discuss books with my father, and she wanted the best in the world for her children. She had a pet canary. When she was a child she lived on a ranch in Arizona with an aunt and had a pet rooster.
She was trained in classical ballet, and was a professional dance team with my God father through the Great Depression era. They called themselves Tavo and Lili. They worked a lot for community events and parties for the very rich, and also regularly as extras for MGM studios. She was a stand-in for Delores del Rio the famous crossover Mexican actress.
Mom had extremely high standards. She always had excellent posture and was very graceful and charming. She was a dancer and my dad was a musician, and so they met in the entertainment field.
He decided to court her, and they got married and she gave birth to my brother, Louis Anthony. My dad went to serve in WWII, did his duty to country, was honorably discharged and after he returned, I came along. She had a bad heart and later in life, dad nursed her with great care and devotion until she passed. He died nine years after her.

Rachelle Kaufman:
A wonderful mother - Gilda was my mother. She was born in Brooklyn and remained friends with her close childhood friends, Shirley, Rita, Thelma, Marlene, most of her life. She was married to my Dad, Elliott Kaufman from age 20 until she died. She had a half sister who lived in California. Her mother Jenny, moved to California to live with mom’s sister when I was a young girl. My mom never got over her abandonment issue with her mother. My mother was a beautiful woman who volunteered her time to working for the Lighthouse raising money for the blind, raising my brother and I and encouraging us to be our best. She loved dancing with my dad until lupus prevented her from doing what she enjoyed.
Michael Bruza:
A beautiful ray of light - Gloria touched so many lives in profound ways. Her smile, laugh and happiness was contagious. Her creativity was boundless. She was able to use her art to inspire everyone she interacted with. For her children, she was their North Star and in many ways, still is.
