He was an employe of The Evening Sentinel since graduation from Carlisle High School and was vice-president of the The Carlsle Sentinel, Inc, and a member of its board of directors. Paul also served five years as a staff sergeant in the Finance Corps of the Army during World War II.

    Paul R Gerhardt, 724 Olson Drive, an employe of The Evening Sentinel since graduation from Carlisle High School in 1929, and for many years circulation manager of this newspaper, died late yesterday afternoon in the Carlisle Hospital after becoming ill while at work at his desk. Fifty-five years old, Mr Gerhardt was a native and lifelong resident of Carlisle. He was born on Sept 2, 1911, a son of the late Reuben W and Annie Gilbert Gerhardt. He was vice-president of the The Carlsle Sentinel, Inc, and a member of its board of directors. he was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a past president of the Empire Hook and Ladder Fire Company, a life member of the Cumberland County Volunteer Firemen's Association and a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society and Hamilton Library Association. The deceased was a graduate of the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance School and served five years as a staff sergeant in the Finance Corps of the Army during World War II. He is survived by three brothers, Eugene N, Boiling Springs; Frederick N, Carlisle, and George K, RD3, Newville; a sister, Mildred M Gerhardt, who made her home with him. The funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the G Book Roth Funeral Home, Walnut Bottom Road at Belvedere Street. The Rev Charles T Sardeson, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Kutz's Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the home at 724 Olson Drive. At the same time a viewing will be held a t the Roth Funeral Home.
