Great photo of a little girl (or boy?) with a corn cob pipe. (Let's hope he/she never picked up the habit). A miniature photo mounted on an decoratively embossed card. From a collection that belonged to a family in Northwest Louisiana. Picture taken probably around 1900-1910
It's our unique ability to laugh that carries us through these times. So here's a "blast from the past" for all you guys and gals out there . . . boy (or girl?) with corncob pipe, glasses and newspaper!
I think this is a Victorian stage actor, who was actually a teenage Little Person. The play was about a dwarf, who pretended to be an orphaned child, to steal from a rich family. I'm quite sure that the Little Rascals short, "Free Eats," was inspired by that popular play. The fellow's name, and the name of the production, escapes me, at the moment. 🤦♀️
No, not always. Sometimes boys' hair was shorter and parted on the side and other times combed forward and had bangs. In any period, there were hair styles that were common, but there have always been variations and individual preferences.
Makes me question the things kids did back then before internet, Nintendo and television were a thing. 🤔 “Kid, how old are you to be smoking a tobacco pipe? In 21st century we say that’s a big no-no.”

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
