Dorothea was a best selling authoress for her book, "Something To Live By". She wrote the book after losing her young daughter, Rosemary, to leukemia. Later, she memorialized her home to honor her daughter and then set up an estate to maintain the home and refurbish a portion of it to serve as dorm rooms to house female college students who are pursuing careers in nursing, teaching, and business administration.
Leslie was an outgoing friendly person. When Leslie Dean Simons was born on March 1, 1953, in Georgetown, Texas, his father, J., was 29 and his mother, Mary, was 25. He had one son and 11 daughters. He died on July 31, 2003, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 50, and was buried in Portland, Texas.
He was known as Jimmy and had been in the RAF since he was 18, he loved flying and frequently took part in exhibitions before the war started. He was married to my grandmother Amelia Simons, known as Millie, they got married on Christmas Eve 1939 at Overstone Manor in Northamptonshire which Amelia's father had built and ran as a country club. They had one child, a daughter, Christine, my mum, who was only 18 months old when he was killed in a flying accident. His squadron had been doing night flying training and he stayed on to do extra hours. Nobody is sure whether his altimeter was faulty or if he misread it due to tiredness but he thought he was higher than he was and flew straight into an electricity pylon and sadly was killed instantly. The whole family are very proud of him and my son, his great-grandson, Matthew Cowley, told his classmates the story of his life last year for Remembrance Sunday and said that he was his hero.
