John Shiells, son of John en Mary Jane Shiells uit Wark, Cornhill-on-Tweed, Northumberland, Engeland. Killed in action in Sevenum, The Netherlands on November 21st 1944. Gravestone of John Shiells at Mook War Cemetery. Text on his gravestone: He died, that we might live. Grave nr. lll.C.14 Address Mook War Cemeterie: Groesbeekseweg 21, 6585 KE, Mook A patrol of the Reconaissance Troop went on patrol on 21-11-1944 (the day of the liberation of Sevenum) to explore "De Vorst", a hamlet of Sevenum. On the Saardijk Lance Sergeant Brown's tank ran on a mine and tank driver John Shiells was killed. He was buried on the spot where he died. His grave was located between the houses of the Pauwels family and the Janssen family. John has been buried here until August 1st 1947 when his mortal remains were taken to Mook War Cemetery. Till that moment his grave was adopted and tended by the widow Mrs. Pauwels who lived on the Saardijk.
