Though younger family members thought when referring to "Uncle Eddie" that his name was Edward, but it was Edgar, which my grandfather, Harry Clifton Higgerson, told me. "Uncleddy" as they called him, never married, and several family members resided with him at various times. He ran a store at Higgerson Landing on the Mississippi River in New Madrid County, Missouri, and I saw his business records/ledger, which are in the possession of Mary Alice (Henry) Higgerson, wife of the late Elzie Mack Higgerson on Kingshighway, New Madrid, MO.

Jacquelina Higgerson "Lena," only daughter of Permelia (Chewning) and Benjamin Higgerson. Jacquelina was born on 28 Dec 1854 in Orange County, Virginia. The birth date on her death certificate is incorrect. She was not 100 years old, though they celebrated that birthday. She was 98. She resided in Orange County, VA, in 1860. Her step-father, William Wallace Porter made her pregnant at the same time his wife was pregnant, so out of embarrassment, they left VA about 1870 and headed westward where people wouldn't be so inquisitive. Once in MO, Wm Wallace took Lena and went westward, she having four children by him while traveling. Finally, Porter left her in MT taking has youngest child to his sister, Julia's, in Flora, IL to rear. He never saw his mother again. She had some happiness in life in that she married a rancher named Thos Francis Daley and had one child by him, Anna May, in 1886. Townspeople could figure out how this "obviously" married woman with four children could marry in the Catholic church, but they did not know she'd never been married before.

Harry Clifton Higgerson (1889-1973) and his younger brother, Walter E. "Watt" Higgerson (1893-1903), on the bank of the Mississippi River in New Madrid County, MO. Watt drowned in a boating accident on the Mississippi River, and his body was never found.

A tintype found in the collection of Dorothy Nan (O'Brien) "Obie" Butler (1927-2021) from Aurora, IL and she resided in Va. Beach, VA. Her parents were Michael Raymond O'Brien (1897-1971) b in Maple Park, IL and d in Aurora, IL and Anita Regina "Anna" Bossong (1899-1971). Her paternal grandparents, who may have been the owners of the tintype, were Michael Martin O'Brien (1850-1931) b either IRE or IL and d in Maple Park, IL and Mary N. Neven (1861-1921), b in Bristol, Kendall, IL and d in Virgil, Kane, IL. Would love to know who it is in the tintype.

Ruth Mary Mertens is 18 years old here and wearing a locket given her by a beau. Photo taken either in DeValls Bluff, Prairie, Arkansas, or Belleville, St. Clair, Illinois. At this point in her life, she was not married to Harry C. Higgerson yet.
