Evelyn "Evie" Allen, 83, of Medford, Ore., passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loving family and friends on May 30, 2015. She and her twin sister, Eleanor ("Ellie"), were born in Kellogg, Idaho, on Sept. 18, 1931, to George and Helen Berry. The family soon moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., where Evie lived for about 70 years. She attended Klamath Union High School and was a grocery clerk at Twin Girls Grocery. In 1948, she married Cyrus "Cy" McColgin. She worked at Low Cost Super Market until the family moved to Malin, Ore. in 1961. Cy and Evie were the owners of the Malin C & E Market, but later divorced. In 1969, Evie went to work as a grocery clerk for Safeway in Klamath Falls. She never met a stranger. The checkout lines would be backed up with customers waiting to visit with her while she checked out their groceries. Safeway recognized her with a nice celebration and gave her a well-deserved hospitality award. On Sept. 28, 1991, she married the love of her life, Jim Allen. They retired soon after and began their travels to New Zealand and the Panama Canal as travel hosts. Sadly, Jim passed away in February 1994. Evie continued to live on their Spring Lake Ranch until October 2003 when she moved to Medford. Evie and her identical twin sister, Ellie, always remained close and best friends. They enjoyed wearing matching clothes and carried on this tradition throughout the years. They took many vacations together and loved to talk with each other on the phone. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Marcia (Dale) Petrasek and Andrea Rollins; twin sister, Eleanor "Ellie" (George) Freitas; grandchildren, Kimberly (Louis) Willits, Troy (Anna) Petrasek and Justin (Michelle) Rollins; great-grandchildren, Ava Willits, Iris Treske-Petrasek, Gustav Treske-Petrasek, Leaum Kormandy, Aaron (Brianna) Heiller, Angela Rollins, Skyler Rollins, Kinley Rollins and Dalton Wespremi; great-great-grandchild, Kobi Heiller; nephews, Dave (Veronica) Freitas and Ken (Rhonda) Freitas; grandnephew, David(Crystal) Freitas; and great-grandnephew and great-grandniece, Ryan and Elyse Freitas. She was preceded in death by her parents; half-brothers, Andrew Berry and Marvin Berry; and beloved husband, Jim Allen. Graveside services will be held at Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Calif. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice, but Evie always held a special place in her heart for animals. The family would like to thank the Asante Hospice team for the kindness and loving concern given Evie and her family during her last months.
