Are they both posing for the camera? Perhaps you have a photo of your parents/grandparents on a pony in your family album? This is Bert Williams on a donkey or mule(?) in 1912 Oklahoma.
Cute photo This is a donkey. Mules are much larger, closer to horse size. I would guess since it doesn’t look like there is a saddle, that the donkey belongs to Bert’s family or friends.
This was around 1927. The smallest girl on the pony is my Aunt Angelina (Jill), and the older girl is my Aunt Anna. The boy is my Uncle Salvatore; he was about 9 or 10 then.
Anna and Sal were named for two siblings...twins...who had been born before them, but who had died in a measles epidemic.
My dad was the oldest in the family. He and his mother and a sister, Elisabetta, and a brother, Nicolas, came to America from Italy in 1910. Their father (my grandfather, Nuncio) had arrived in the US a few years before and worked to save enough money to bring his family over.
Angelina, Anna, Sal, and another sister, Antoinette, were born in the US.
By the time the youngest, Angelina, was born, my dad was already 21 years old.
This is my Father and he is on a donkey.
I had a pony when I was young but do not have a photo. I have a picture of my nephew on my pony, but he is still living. I do not want to post any photos of any of my living relatives. Thanks for commenting.
Just think of the stories he could tell when he had reached his 90's!!! What a long, rich life, and just think about what he witnessed over the course of virtually the entire 20th century!
Bert was born in Oklahoma Territory, before Oklahoma was a state. His parents gave him the middle name, Okla. He was their youngest child. After his father died, his mother became very ill and he vowed he would not marry or leave his mother until she passed. One of his brothers was a preacher and Bert began preaching when he was only 14 years old. He later did go to a seminary and made it "official".
Bert was an avid gardener and had an uncanny gift with nature and animals of all sorts, both domestic and wild. Within a few days of talking to and feeding them, wild birds would actually land on his shoulders, arms and even his head when they would see him. And different kinds of tree squirrels came and ate out of his hand. As his youngest child, I loved to watch him interact with the myriad of animals we came in contact with. I've had many close contacts with animals in the wild but do not have the complete trust the animals had with him.
Bert loved to whistle, so most likely one could find him simply by listening for him.
He grew gigantic watermelon and tomatoes that we loved to consume right out in the garden. (We kept a salt shaker in the garden for our frequent feasts).
He had a huge interest in poultry, so we had large flocks of chickens and a flock of guinea fowl. He knew the type of trees, birds, ducks, geese and even grass and/or weeds we were looking at. Needless to say, for me, it was never boring being with him. I was always asking questions and he was always patient and willing to stop whatever he was doing to answer. He was a great Dad. He was 50 years old when I was born. Too old? No way...I couldn't have had it better.

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come.
I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
