Working at the library just as today. I worried about my family that lived in NJ/NY. My nephew worked for Morgan Stanley and escaped. They only lost seven people because they all did drills and had to completely exit the building. He didn't get home until midnight.
Thank goodness..the importance of drills and prepping for the worst.
I was at the college where I taught and just coming out of my office (our offices were in a computer learning center at the back of the library) when I noticed several people standing below the tv on the wall of the library. I stepped out to look, too,and someone said a plane had just flown into one of the Twin Towers.

As some were starting to make comments on what a terrible accident it was, we watched in horror as the second plane flew right into the other tower...and we knew this was an attack on America.

As the news spread through the college about the attack on the Towers and then the news of the attack on the Pentagon, word came down from the administration that teachers could cancel their classes if they chose to for the rest of the day.

In bed. Worked 3rd shift 12 ± hours. Even though I was off this day my sleep patterns were upside down even on off days. Wife woke me up and I watched it from about 10 o'clock on.

I was at a training center in Arlington with a few of my co-workers, we watched in shock as a plane flew by so close past our window you could have reached out and touched it, then we heard the crash and saw the smoke and fire from the Pentagon just down the road from us. Scariest day of my life! Trying to get out of DC was a nightmare and there was no way to contact anyone or know what was going on. I will never forget ........... , unfortunately I fear many have forgotten........

I was at work when one of my colleagues came into my office to tell me about the first one. At that time they were speculating an accident. I went to our conference room with others in my office and saw the second one hit. The husband of one of the ladies in our office was at the pentagon. He had a harrowing story but was not hurt. She had to wait several hours to hear from him because he didn't have cell phone then. Sad Sad day. We'll never be the same.

I am researching Tasker, Jones, Bowen, Rees of Wales; Kroetch, Chartrand of Canada; and Boggs, Ferguson, Smith, of West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Also Steeples of Kansas. And on my mother's New England roots - well, too numerous to name since she descends from Mayflower passengers as well as Dutch East India captains who arrived with their families before the Mayflower landed further north than was planned. :)
I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Director). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in Campbell (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our current Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. For information on the folks who build and support the community see Daniel - Founder & Creator.
My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
