There's nothing like a picnic on a hot summer day. For generations, families and friends have enjoyed the tradition of packing a picnic basket full of their favorite foods and eating together in the great outdoors.
These best friends took the time to pose for the camera in 1914 Verona Missouri, right around the time photography became popular among the middle class.
'Friends eating pickles on a picnic' was shared by community member Judy back in 2009 and gives us a glimpse into a time 100 years in our past. Names of the friends are included in the description of the photo.
Simple times, a time of innocence! Makes us wonder what their lives were like - alter all, they had World War I, the Roaring 20's, the Great Depression, and then WWII to live thru. A few of those gals may have lived into the 1980's or even 1990's. They witnessed the most eventful century in human history!

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
