Phineas Davenport Allen age 78
Phineas Davenport Allen, age 78, a mechanic who worked on steering riggings for submarines during World War I, went back to work during WW II.
He was employed by a New England company, whose normal peacetime product was cube steak machinery. The drill press he operated was a part of the company's peacetime equipment and was converted to speed up the work on war subcontracts. Many companies converted their equipment to work on wartime needs during this time. This photo was taken only a few months after the U.S. entered the war - everything was moving quickly.
