Pierre McFadden again. He was with the FBI for some time and a Free Mason also. Perhaps this uniform was for one of those? Sorry it's not a sharper image. Don't know the uniform.

Is it possible that he was Catholic? It looks like the Knights of Columbus to me - I don't see any Masonic imagery?
Very possibly. No wait, his Army papers state him as potestant.
I don't see anything either. I have his Mason ring and his card of membership. I have no idea what the uniform is. "Trick or treat!!"
You probably have a clearer view but it looks like there are crosses on his sleeves and belt buckle - I don't know of a Protestant equivalent of the Knights of Columbus? Just a thought . . . ;)
I don't either Kathy. It's a mystery to me. I can't find any family thus far. I've been looking.
Someone out there will know - we'll just have to wait a bit, I guess! ;)
My view is no better. I do see the crosses but it doesn't help me a bit. Maybe it's an old Shriners outfit of some sort. I wouldn't recognize that either. I never was anygood with that stuff.
My son is a Mason - and a Shriner. I'll ask him to take a look!
My husband thinks a Naval Chaplin, but he was in the Army!
Yes that would really be appreciated. I'd sure like to list him as what he is. I just plain wanna know for myself now!
I'll have to check back tomorrow. It's one AM! wooohooo
And maybe you'll wake up to a mystery solved!!
I believe this to be a Knights of Columbus uniform.
PS - I have verified that this uniform is from the Knights of Columbus on this website (scroll down about half way and you'll find an identical uniform): “The uniform is that of Knights of Columbus, I believe. The MOLLUS never has had a prescribed uniform. Although similar looking from this photograph, the badge is not a MOLLUS medal. The cross in this case, I do not believe, means a chaplain, but rather is a part of the general uniform of the Order at that time.”
Danniel, thank you so much for checking on that for me. I never have been able to find anything. I have a pretty large family and it seems I am alone in my research. Guess I'm the only one curious enough to research anything about family. Thanks again
Finally, now I'm sure. After writing to Mr. Kendall, I received this answer and will end my search. ANSWER:Ms. Upchurch,

The uniform your grandfather is wearing is that of a Knight Templar, of which knightly a Trinitarian Christian Mason is invited to join. Of course, becoming a Templar is not a requirement and the Knights Templar organization is separate and distinct from Ancient Craft Freemasonry. According to the documents you forwarded to me, he was a member of the Santa Monica Knights Templar Commandery.
I have copied Sara Nelson in our membership department so she may assist in looking up what Craft lodge he attended; these are the only records the Grand Lodge of F. & A.M. of California keeps

Sincerely,

Adam G. Kendall, P.M.

Viola,

Thank you so much for posting the real information on this photo! You educated me . . .I didn't know that the Knights Templar was so similar to the Knights of Columbus uniform - makes you wonder! ;)
From what I could find I would say Masonic. Here is a website with a photo that looks to be from the same time period to compare to this photo...

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. For information on the folks who build and support the community see Daniel - Founder & Creator.
My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.

I am researching Tasker, Jones, Bowen, Rees of Wales; Kroetch, Chartrand of Canada; and Boggs, Ferguson, Smith, of West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Also Steeples of Kansas. And on my mother's New England roots - well, too numerous to name since she descends from Mayflower passengers as well as Dutch East India captains who arrived with their families before the Mayflower landed further north than was planned. :)
