My Uncle Irving George Barteau was killed on July 30th of 1944 during an invasion at St. Lo, France. He was buried there on August 11, 1944 and the following information came from a report sent to his family from the Army:
PVT. Irving George Barteau, ASN 37 623 855, is buried in Plot H, Row 16, Grave 7
Headstone: Cross
Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial in St. James, France.
His Cross on the Tombstone reads:

My Uncle, PVT. Irving George Barteau was in the Army for only a short time and was participating in his second campaign before he lost his life at St. Lo, France on 30 July 1944. He was the youngest of ten children born to Anna Elizabeth Arkes and Edward Francis Barteau. He married Mary Catherine Kistner in 1941 in Florissant, Missouri.

He is the son of Mary Louise Janeau and Francois Edward Barteau. He married Anna Elizabeth Arkes in Florissant, Missouri on 4 Aug 1897 and they had ten children, nine living to adulthood. He and Anna celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1947. He died in Florissant on 25 June 1950.

Currently believed to be in the possession of Martha Ray Harris in Montgomery. Jeremiah Andress is my great grand uncle on my Andress side. He is the only person I know of that fathered twenty-one children!

He is full-blooded Blackfoot Indian according to his grandson, Edward Francis Barteau. Johno, as he was called, was born in St. Charles, Missouri to Emilie Sedilot dit Montreuil and Jean Baptiste Janeaux. He died in Florissant, Missouri on 19 Dec 1906 and is buried in St. Ferdinand's Cemetery there. He married Louise Thibault on 25 Aug 1846 in Florissant.
