This photo was taken at the Johnson Family home, probably about 1912. The picture includes Oliver Perry Johnson, probably a couple of his sisters and Esta and Earl Smith. The house was built around 1860 and still stands at 5276 Old Springfield Rd., Tipp City, OH 45371. Family history states the house with bricks made of clay from the area and fired on the property.

Wedding of Nicholaus and Mary (Dehen) Barthel in 1893: Nicholaus Barthel was the son of Mathias Barthel (1840-1899) and Barbara Burgess (1851-1920) and grandson of Nicholaus Burgess (1810-1887) and Maria Lambrecht (?-1891). Mary Dehen: daughter of Peter Dehen (1838-1898) and Theresia Heuring (1852-1922).

A photo of Elizabeth Janet Baldridge, abt 1932-33, Paintsville, Johnson Co., KY: My mother at age 3 or so, with her best bud at that time (I've forgotten the doggies name)! So cute! Her parents were Ernest and Hazel Risner Baldridge. She married James E. Nelson and they produced 5 little girls!

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Paul DUKER which was taken at the Foehlinger Studio in Burlington, IA sometime in the early 1900's. Paul appears to be about 6 years old at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Paul and his family:

Paul George DUKER was b. 14 May 1905 in Burlington, IA to parents William Theodore DUKER (b. 1872) and Frances KEINER (1871-1952). Paul was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Beatrice C.; Brady; Paul George; Carl O.; and Mary DUKER, all born between 1903 and 1912. It appears that Paul married twice, he married Charlotte KALETSCH (d. 1990) and together they had one child, he also was married to Lillian Elaine GRAHAM (b. 20 Oct 1908 in Waynesboro, MS-d. 12 Jan 1973 in Texarkana, TX the dau of Robert GRAHAM and Genie WATTS) sometime after 1940. Paul died 13 Jul 1978 in Texarkana, TX.

A photo of Mary Lewis Donnell, sister of Dr James Lewis. This is a photo of my grandfathers Aunt Mary from the Family Bible. She was born Jan 7, 1809 and married Thomas Donnell in Kentucky in 1828. They had 3 daughters: Cassandra b. 1829, Margaret 1831, and Eliza 1834. They settled in Decatur Co, Indiana. Cassandra married Rev Joseph Walker from Dublin, Ireland. He was the minister of Springhill Church 1857-1867. Mary died May 1, 1898.

A photo of Stan Lee, the Hulk, and Spiderman. Stan Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber on December 28, 1922 in New York City to Romanian Jewish parents Celia Solomon Lieber and Jack Lieber. His brother is Larry Lieber and is 9 years his junior. As a child, Lee was influenced by heroic books and movies. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1939 at 16 ½ years old. Afterward ,he joined the WPA Federal Theatre Project.

In 1939, he became an assistant in the Timely Comics division of pulp magazine and comic-book publisher Martin Goodman’s company. Timely Comics would later evolve into Marvel comics. He made his comic book debut in 1941 with “Captain America Foils the Traitor’s Revenge” where he used the pseudonym Stan Lee. (Hoping to save his given name for a career as a novelist.)

In 1942, Lee joined the United States Army and served in the Signal Corps where he wrote slogans, manuals and training films; occasionally cartooning. Playwright was his military classification.

He married Joan Clayton Boocock on December 5, 1947. They had two children in the 1950’s: Joan and Jan, though only Joan survived.

By the 1950’s, Martin Goodman’s company was known as Atlas Comics. Here, Lee was in charge of creating a new superhero team apart from the Justice League of America. He introduced complex , somewhat flawed characters (previously,superheroes were "perfect" people). The first superhero character group Lee and Jack Kirby created was the Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four consists of Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Touch and the Thing. Other characters Lee created include the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, X-Men, Daredevil, Doctor Strange and Spider Man.

Stan Lee would go on to become the figurehead and public face for Marvel Comics - which would eventually lead Stan Lee to "Comic Book Legend" status. In 1981, he left New York and moved to California to develop Marvel’s TV and movie properties. In 1998, Peter Paul and Lee began internet based production and marketing company, Stan Lee Media. In 2001, Stan Lee Media filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It was dismissed from bankruptcy in 2006.

In the 2000s, Lee began working with DC superheroes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and the Green Lantern. In 2001, Lee and two others (Gill Champion and Arthur Lieberman) formed Purveyors of Wonder Entertainment, known colloquially as POW!, to develop film, tv and video game properties.

Lee was an official guest of the San Diego Comic-Con hosted in 1975, 1986,1995, and 2010. The 1995 Comic Con Chicago (now Wizard World Chicago) featured a Stan Lee roast. In 2007 & 2008, Stan Lee was a Notable guest at the New York Comic Con. In 2007, Marvel Legends introduced a Stan Lee action figure at the Comic-Con International. In 2008, Stan Lee was awarded the inaugural new York Comics Legend Award during the New York Comic Con. He returned again as a guest in NYCC in 2010. Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo Presented by POW! Entertainment launched in September 2012. Happening two months after the San Diego Comic-Con International, it still sold out 125,000 tickets online in less than 2 hours.

In 2010 he partnered with Guardian Media Entertainment on the Guardian Project to create superhero mascots of the National Hockey League.

He founded a non-profit organization, the Stan Lee Foundation, to focus on literacy, education, and the arts in 2010.

The city of Long Beach and County of Los Angeles declared Stan Lee Day to be October 2, 2009. Stan Lee is the one and only comic book legend.

This is our family homestead in the depression days. The farm had 40 acres and was purchased in the 1860's and sold in 2010. The Chaffee family of 10 were poor but proud. They worked the farm and churned butter and sold it in Towanda, PA. They had chickens, pigs, cows, and a horse. They raised crops and my Great Grampa Fred and Great Grama Marie were trained nurses. The barn went first and then the house fell down in the 1960's, by the looks of the roof in this picture, it figures.

He attended the United States Naval Academy (graduating, as he joked, 5th from the bottom in his class in 1958 - he was a bit of a rebel) and after graduation became a naval aviator. In 1967, he requested combat duty and was assigned to an aircraft carrier in the Gulf in Tonkin. On October 26, 1967 his plane was shot down and he became a prisoner of war.

After 5 and a half years as a prisoner of war and being severely tortured, John was released. The physical effects of his torture lasted the rest of his life.

In the early 1980s, he entered politics in the state of Arizona, eventually becoming a U.S. Senator. While he was nominated for President by the Republican Party in 2008, he lost the race to Democrat Barack Obama. He remained the senior Senator from Arizona until his death from brain cancer in 2018.

This is a photo of Greenberry Rayl, great grandfather of Rebecca Rayl Griffis. Greenberry was born Oct. 20, 1845 Switzerland County, Indiana. Died on his 75th birthday Oct. 20, 1920 in Tipton County, Indiana.

A photo of Uncle Ira & Elberta Briggs. My Aunt Lula Lewis married Ira Augustus Briggs of Sheridan on December 1, 1909. He was an electrician with the Yuba Consolidated Gold mines in Hammonton, California. Their house was next to ours and I grew up with Elberta.
