Note: Composer and lyricist Irving Berlin was Jewish yet he wrote the iconic Christmas song. Born in Russia, he became an American citizen and wrote over 1500 songs - many of them patriotic, including "God Bless America" - and wrote the scores for 19 Broadway shows and 18 films. By the time he died in 1989 at the age of 101, he was one of America's greatest treasures. Another American composer, Jerome Kern, said of him: "Irving Berlin has no place in American music — he is American music."
