Thomas Burbank
Thomas Burbank
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of Thomas BURBANK which was taken at the J. K. Brown Studio in Augusta, ME. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860’s with Thomas appearing to be in his 40’s at the time it was taken. In addition to his name, someone has also written “brother of Grandmother BLAISDELL – whose maiden name was Hannah BURBANK” and “The family story goes that it was Thomas BURBANK who perfected the Burbank Potato, and not Luther Burbank – SNM”. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Thomas and his family:

Thomas J. BURBANK was b. 19 Mar 1816 in Trenton, ME to parents Johnson BURBANK (b. 29 Jun 1779 in Newbury, MA-d. 13 Jan 1866 in Cooper, ME) and Abigail HARRIS (b. 15 Feb 1781 in Beverly, MA) who were married on 11 or 12 Jun 1801 in Beverly, MA. Thomas was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Moses; William H.; Hannah; Maria Jane; Edna J.; Thomas J.; Eliza A.; and Abigail J. BURBANK all born between 1802 and 1823 in Beverly, MA, Trenton, ME, Eastport, ME, and Cooper, ME. Thomas married Harriet HITCHENS and together they had 9 children including, Henry J.; Julia A.; Thomas W.; Moses; Sylvester; Hattie E.; Abbey; Edmund; and William BURBANK. A second marriage was to Harriet L. LELAND.

Thomas’ sister Hannah (b. 3 Mar 1806- d. 1892) was married to Timothy BLAISDEL.

I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this BURBANK Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks,
Shelley

Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
A photo of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Dietrich was a German pastor who was part of the German resistance and a conspiracy plot to get rid of Hitler and the Nazi regime. He was arrested for smuggling 7 Jews from Germany to Switzerland. When the July 20th plot to kill Hitler failed (in which he took part), he was sent to Buchenwald concentration camp in February 1945, then he was transported to Flossenburg concentration camp, then sadly executed by hanging on April 9, 1945.

He said "the ultimate question for a responsible man to ask is not how he is to extricate himself heroically from the affair, but how the coming generation shall continue to live."

I've "rescued" a group of photographs belonging to the CAMOZZY Family including one of Milton CAMOZZY taken at the Palace Studio in San Francisco, CA when he was just 21 months old. The second photograph is one of Helen Florence CAMOZZY taken on 26 Dec 1924 in Ellensburg, WA when she was 4 1/2 years old and a flower girl in the wedding of Ann LITCHER and Bernard SWANSON. The third photograph is one of Milton's parents Mr. & Mrs. G. G. CAMOZZY which appears to have been taken in the 1890's. This photograph is framed in a gilded frame typical of that time period.

Jul 1866 in Switzerland and d. 1910 and is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Nevada City, CA. on 24 Dec 1895 Gabriel married Florence Mamie GENASCI who was b. 1873 in Nevada City, CA. The couple had two children, a son Milton Daniel b. 1899 and a daughter, Florence H. CAMOZZI b. 1905. After Gabriel’s death in 1905 she remarried, her second husband was Frank L. HARTMAN (1873-1934). Florence and Frank had a son, Frank HARTMAN Jr. born in 1912. Florence M. HARTMAN died 16 Sept 1934 and is buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg, WA.

I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of three children identified as children of Hary & Hazle CODY. The children are identified as Fredrich age 3 years; Hary age 1 year and 11 months; and Jack Leroy not quite 3 months old. There is no studio or location indicated on the photograph and I’m guessing that it was taken sometime in the early 1900’s prior to 1920. I’m hoping to locate someone from the family so that this precious old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this CODY Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks,
Shelley

Clarence Liv, nicknamed Grandpa, and Alonso Tucker, nicknamed Teddy, behind the Wright Cycle Company around 1897 in Dayton Ohio.

The Wright Brothers (Wilbur and Orville) are credited with taking this photo, which makes it interesting, but I especially love the boys! I wonder what Clarence did to earn the nickname "Grandpa" - maybe he was one of those boys who was wise for his age. And I love Teddy's eyes!

The stock market crash in 1929 and the Great Depression were influential in his not winning a second term. Franklin Roosevelt won and began the first of his terms, overturning many of Hoover's economic policies.

A photo of Maude Mae DeWitt. Maudie was the daughter of Joseph W. DeWitt. She was born December 22, 1888 in Christian Co, Missouri and died January 3, 1979 in Denver, Colorado. Maudie is wearing a pendant with a photo of Paris "Toad" Hargis, in it. At the time of this photo she had just become, Mrs. Paris Hargis. They married August 14th, 1905 at - Ozark, Christian County, Missouri. As far as I am aware, they only had one child, Joseph "Joe" DeWitt Hargis (1907 - 1939). Isn't she a pretty one?

If anyone is aware of other children in this family, or if Joe possible fathered a child, I would be grateful for information or how to contact them, thank you.
